Goetze manufacture these face seals in Germany from a high quality CAST IRON material, designated Duronit V. This cast iron material has a number of advantages over 100Cr6 bearing steel. The material allows for increased retention of oil between the two mating faces, resulting in less friction, increased heat dissipation and increased service life. Duronit also has the ability to effectively handle running speeds of up to 10 metres per second, compared to 3 metres per second for traditional 100Cr6 seals. Major OEM equipment manufacturers have for many years come to rely on Goetze to design and produce mechanical face seals best suited for their applications.
